The University of Fribourg is a bilingual University, with a humanist tradition and an international orientation. It offers a full academic curriculum in French and in German to approx. 10’000 students. A number of its Master programmes are taught in English. Fribourg University was one of Switzerland’s first to implement the Bologna Declaration. In line with this reform, the University has implemented new instruments and tools to measure programme quality.

The Department of Education of the University of Fribourg is responsible for the training of secondary and upper secondary teachers as well as for the preparation of researchers in education. Among the domains of expertise of the Department related to the project are vocational education, adult education and educational technologies. In recent years, it has developed a special expertise in the educational potentialities of light portable devices as tools to connect out-of-school and in-school learning activities.
